This Isn’t a Spoiler But….

Dark Knight Rises

Saw Dark Knight Rises last night and I have to say it is a very good movie. Nolan did a good job at wrapping up all of the movies. Knowing a lot of the Batman comic book story meant that I walked in expecting certain things out of this story. Some came out exactly as I expected, while others were off point. For this years movies, I think Dark Knight Rises looked better than any of the others.

Nolan had many little stories that came together to make the big story make sense. I think Anne Hathaway did a great job as Catwoman and shows that she is a great actress.

After hearing that Bane had such a dark, hard to hear voice I was worried I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it. They cleaned it up and I think there was only one word that I missed, but he was using a speaker system so this is forgivable. Besides that everyone in the movie was easy to understand and when Bale was Batman his voice wasn’t as bad as the previous movies. They did make him feel more like the Batman I have come to love with his popping out of nowhere and disappearing into the shadows. I felt like they didn’t do this enough in the previous movies, but they did it just the right amount in this one.

I very much enjoyed how Nolan ended this movie.

Now for the spoilers. I’m going to talk about the movie and this will include some spoilers.

Dark Knight Rises with Batman and Bane

First, that is now how you treat an atomic bomb.

Second Bane kind of sounds like Shawn Connery, and kind of threw me off during the movie at times. Wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I was expecting as Banes voice.

Ok I think I’m done with my rants for now.

I felt that they did a good job at taking a few of the biggest Batman story lines and mixed them together well. They included the Knightfall series and the Cataclysm story line. In Knightfall Bane breaks Batman’s back and he works to recover it. In the Cataclysm story line Gotham is roped off from the country and everyone that is inside is not allowed to leave. I love the scene when Bane broke Batman’s back. It was just like the classic comic book scene. Picks him up and drops him over his knee. For Cataclysm, Bane get’s the US government to back off and leave Gotham alone or he’s going to nuke the city. Obviously in the Cataclysm story line it was an earthquake but the way people reacted and marked areas made me think of Cataclysm. I think that if Heath Ledger was still alive they may have gone more into territory style story instead of this way. Maybe even a little bit more like Arkham City. But without the Joker I felt like it did well. I do feel like it could have been better with him but it was still good.

When they introduced Talia I was a little thrown off at who it was. I think I kind of went into autopilot mode and forgot to pay attention to who Ra’s child was suppose to be.

When they introduced a Robin I was kind of annoyed when they said oh here’s my real name Robin. Kind of cool but they should have chosen one of the Robin’s names and not gone with that. I would have preferred even Richard Grayson. Super subtle and super better.

I was also kind of sad that Batman didn’t end up with Talia. They could have expanded on the story some more to go that way, but I still like the way it happened.

Last thing, I could see Nolan making more Batman movies, and even though he’s saying he won’t, either he is lying or they need to pay him more money so he will continue the story.
